The Island of Key West is made up of two separate areas; Old Town (Downtown) and Newtown (the more modern side). When staying in Old Town Key West you have the ease of being able to walk to all of the Bars, Restaurants, and Attractions featured in Key West. Should you choose to you stay in Newtown Key West you'll be only1-3 miles away from the downtown area. Newtown is where you'll find most new Key West Resorts. Old Town Key West offers some new hotels but predominantly privately owned Bed and Breakfasts, Inns, and Guest Houses. If you are looking for accommodations in Key West, you can choose these privately owned Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, and Inns which have better access to the Old Town area. The Hotels in Newtown feature more amenities like; pools, beachfront, restaurants, etc., and most provide complimentary shuttle service to the Old Town area.
